What We Believe
WE BELIEVE in a Triune God (Father, Son [Jesus Christ], and Holy Spirit) as the one and only true God.
WE BELIEVE
that Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is the only way to salvation.
WE BELIEVE
in and stand on The Holy Bible as the revealed and inspired Word of God; The Lord’s perfect
revelation to humankind.
WE BELIEVE
that all believers are called and spiritually gifted for ministry service for the present age. The
local church is a body of baptized believers in Jesus Christ who work in covenant relationship under the headship of Jesus and led by a Senior Pastor as overseer and under shepherd.
Our History
First Gethsemane Baptist Church was organized in 1910 as a result of a revival effort of a group of believers desiring a greater Christian witness in an area of Louisville, KY known at the time as “The Bottoms”. The church has remained a stable witness for Christ since. Originally located on Floyd Street, the church erected a new building and relocated to Algonquin Parkway in 1972. Dr. T. Vaughn Walker served as Senior Pastor from March of 1984 until February 2019, at which time our congregation was led by Interim Pastor, Keith A. Bush until October 2020.
We are honored and excited to have a gift from God in the person of Dr. Joshua A. Harris as our Pastor as of November 2020. 1st G has a rich history of leadership of pastors who’s primary goal was to reach the people and lead them to Christ. We are proud of our history and excited about our future.
We embrace a ‘wholistic’ approach to the ministry which seeks a balanced commitment to minister to the totality of a person’s existence. This approach seeks to minister to the spiritual, physical and intellectual aspects of a persons life.
